Set Design - issues that need developing

Drafts and points of issues developing:

As a group we have a few areas of our set design that we understand are more complicated to create and therefore we need to put more time and effort into these. For example the wheel, which is part of our element 1, is causing a few problems. First of all we have spoken to Paul a technician and we are struggling to come up with a good concept of how we can build our wheel. Having done lots of research into, we now know we need the base to be very solid as the girl who will be standing on it, will be wearing heels meaning a huge force of pressure will be applied so the material needs to be strong enough to hold this without breaking. Secondly we need to source the materials, which in itself is expensive so we are trying to find companies that will provide us with their “scraps” for example the cut off of a new section of material. This would mean they could sell it to us for a cheaper price. Until we can answer all these questions of how to build and hot to buy the material, we need to be prepared to come up with a solution as it may not be possible to do. Our group is starting to think of new ideas and we are hoping talking to the set designers will help.
Below is a few examples of the wheels created by other people:

In terms of our other elements, they all seem to be doable; the main issue is turnover time. On shoot day we are going to have to be super organised as we have a lot of lighting/sets to change therefore we need to ensure we are prepared to be time efficient. As unlike the real world, this is our coursework and we cannot extend deadlines or spend more money. We have a strict school budget and school timetable that doesn’t allow for wasted time.
