Remembering Myself – Stephen
Stephan is an American Electronic
singer/songwriter/producer. He is from Silver Lake California. His debut album
was released on May 10th 2016. He is similar to other singer
songwriters such as Jose Gonzalez who also writes his songs and is very unique.
Stephan is different in that he is in charge of all his music from writing to
producing it due to the fact he is not that well known therefore has to work
tactically and has produced some great songs.
He currently doesn’t have a music video
himself, if I made one I would have a pretty simple setting and use the studio
where a guy would be singing. However I would take it back to a field where one
girl would be dancing in this field and could potentially be dancing with lots of paint/ powder
being thrown up in the air and around her. Whilst back in the studio the guy
would have paint/powder thrown onto him as he was performing from behind the
camera he would initially be in all white but gradually more colour would hit
him, giving him more life. He would then eventually ‘remember himself’.

I would also have him surrounded by mirrors so that he is looking at his reflection and hopefully that would make the video more enticing and give more elements to look at. The use of all the colour should add a new dimension to the video so that there’s a lot going on visually giving the listener and watcher something to look at and enjoy making the song more like a painting, something with lots going on that gradually makes more sense as it progresses. By the end of the song I would have him covered from head to toe in colour surrounded by colour all over the mirrors and on the floor.

I think the video would fit in with the specific track as there’s a lot to look at but like with the artist when the listener thinks about it its actually a pretty simple narrative with lots of depth and emotion to it. As well as this the track is about him wanting to remember himself and by using a literal feeling of colour and the sense of touch he can gradually come alive and remember all that he wants to.
